The 1975 - Mine

There comes a time in a young man's life
He should settle down and find himself a wife
But I'm just fine 'cause I know that you're mine

I fight crime online sometimes
And write rhymes I hide behind
And I switch her wine
Both crying, I'm fine
If you are fine

Looking back on 2009
When people said that it was raining all the time
I see sunshine 'cause I know that you're mine

And you say that I'm wasting your time
And I smile and tell you things'll be fine
For some reason I just can't say, "I do"

There comes a time in a young man's life
He should settle down and find himself a wife
But I'm just fine 'cause I know you are mine.

Writer(s): Matthew Healy, Adam Hann, Ross Macdonald, George Daniel

This song was inspired by the band's love of saxophonist John Coltrane.
Matt Healy explained to Pitchfork how this song came about, "I always use the magpie analogy: a magpie will collect a diamond or a piece of glass or a piece of foil—it doesn't matter, as long as it's shiny and attractive. It's the same thing with us—as long as it's beautiful."
The line "I fight crime online sometimes" refers to Matt Healy's efforts to spread the word in social media about society issues connected with religion, politics, gay rights etc. The band calls those issues "crimes" and even made an appropriate music video for the song "Love It If We Made It".
